As Rick Scott enters his final legislative session, For Florida’s Future, a working families advocacy group, is launching RicksRecession.com, a new website highlighting the majority of counties still mired in a recession, and the nearly half of households in Florida who qualify as working poor.
Today, advocates delivered petition signatures from more than 12,000 concerned Floridians urging the Florida Legislature to launch an investigation into Gov. Rick Scott and his administration’s role in the tragedy that led to the avoidable deaths of 14 Florida nursing home residents following Hurricane Irma.
As lawmakers prepare for the upcoming legislative session, Progress Florida unveiled its “People First” Report Card grading every lawmaker on the votes they cast this past session across a wide spectrum of issues important to Floridians.

“Today, Gov. Rick Scott ignored thousands of parents, teachers and community leaders who have spoken out against this travesty of a bill and embraced a secret and unaccountable process to deal an underhanded sucker punch to public education in our state.”
“If a budget is a statement of our values, then this budget is a gross showcase of the warped, twisted, and irresponsible priorities of Gov. Scott, Speaker Corcoran, President Negron and legislative leadership.”
“Trumpcare will increase health care costs, reduce quality of care, strip coverage from an estimated 24 million Americans and gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Adding insult to injury, Trumpcare would exempt Members of Congress from the law.”
“Every Floridian who works for a living and values their fundamental rights — including the right to vote — owes a debt of gratitude to Bill Nelson for taking this stand.”
Advocates gathered at the State Capitol and in cities throughout Florida to “Awake The State” on the opening day of the 2017 legislative session. The event at the Capitol was part of a series of statewide actions and events promoting a different agenda than Gov. Scott’s: “a Florida that works for all Floridians.”
