Today, Governor Ron DeSantis held a roundtable in Sarasota to discuss property insurance legislation, SB 76, passed during the 2021 session and signed by the Governor. In response to this legislation, Progress Florida Executive Director Mark Ferrulo issued the following statement.
A leaked video shows Heritage Action for America’s Executive Director, Jessica Anderson, bragging to large donors about a coordinated effort to draft, lobby for and ultimately pass bills to make it harder to vote in battleground states across the country, including Florida. “We did it quickly and we did it quietly,” she said.
As Trelvis Randolph, General Counsel for the Miami-Dade NAACP, puts it: “By passing JNC reforms we can be assured Florida’s judiciary will reflect our diverse state and be free from the undue influence of partisan politics and special-interest money — with access to justice for all.”
Ron DeSantis’ head spinning hypocrisy: Protections for well-connected Republicans, but not Floridians
Less than a week ago, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an executive order banning coronavirus vaccine passports in Florida. DeSantis said it was “completely unacceptable for either the government or the private sector to impose upon you the requirement that you show proof of vaccine to just simply be able to participate in normal society.”
Gov. Ron DeSantis recently convened a roundtable of handpicked “experts” to provide him with political cover for his failure of leadership during the pandemic that has so far infected more than 2 million Floridians and left more than 33,000 dead.
“As part of the American Rescue Plan, $17.3 billion will flow to the State of Florida. The question is, will Republicans in charge of state government use that money for rent relief, support for small businesses and to stop cuts to children’s health care and education or will they use it for more corporate tax cuts and giveaways?”
A group of everyday Floridians joined legislators from around the state today in countering Gov. Ron DeSantis’s State of the State address with the “People’s Response”.
“This isn’t a schoolyard game where you pick up your marbles and stomp away, Gov. DeSantis. Distributing these vaccines is about people’s lives and livelihoods, all the people in Florida.”
