Gov. Scott and his allies have big plans for Florida’s state parks, and not the good kind. Rick Scott and his DEP Secretary say that state parks should completely pay for themselves. That’s utter nonsense. We all pay taxes in part to pay for public places so we can enjoy their natural beauty and recreational opportunities. Our state parks also exist to preserve our history and protect open space, waterways, and wildlife for future generations. State parks, like public roads, public safety, and neighborhood schools do not exist for profit – period.
Our representatives in Tallahassee need to know Floridians support their state parks and reject attempts to turn them into profit centers.
Join fellow Floridians at your local Have A Heart, Save Our Parks event on Saturday.
Previous attempts by Gov. Scott and his allies to make a quick buck off of our state parks have been defeated because Floridians stood up and spoke out loudly and clearly. Let’s continue to fight back and preserve these special places for future generations of Floridians.
