An overwhelming 93% of public comments during the recent toll road task force meetings opposed the roads. And, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Florida’s budget is projected to be a whopping $2.7 billion dollars short. With a massive hole in our state budget, it’s more important than ever to urge state lawmakers to slam the brakes on these Roads to Ruin.
Roads To Ruin
The future of Florida’s rural communities, wild lands, water quality and endangered species all hang in the balance with the fate of Florida’s Roads to Ruin – the massive toll roads project being pushed by many of the most powerful, big money special interests in the state, and Florida’s GOP leadership beholden to their campaign checks.
It’s going to take a grassroots coalition of Floridians from across the state to stop this corporate special interest-driven disaster. That’s why we’re proud to be a part of the newly-formed No Roads To Ruin Coalition!
Not since the Cross Florida Barge Canal project of 1960s has there been a more environmentally disastrous project conceived than the “Roads to Ruin” rural toll roads plan.
Despite overwhelming public opposition, the legislature passed, and Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill to create three major new toll roads that will destroy large swaths of Florida’s last remaining rural lands, pollute waterways, and threaten endangered wildlife including the iconic Florida manatee and panther.
