A Quick Message From Sen. Bob Graham

Sen. Graham is no stranger to the cause of preserving and protecting natural Florida. Be sure to read his quick message and then add your voice to the thousands of Floridians working to put the Florida Land and Legacy amendment on the ballot in 2014.

Former Gov. and Sen. Bob Graham is no stranger to the cause of preserving and protecting natural Florida. As governor, Graham oversaw the development of the Conservation and Recreation Lands Program (CARL), which created a priority list of environmentally sensitive lands to be purchased and preserved by the state. Graham’s administration would also see the creation of the groundbreaking Save Our Rivers and Save Our Everglades programs, helping make Florida an international leader in land and water protection. The efforts by Gov. Graham helped lay the foundation for larger and more comprehensive programs, like Preservation 2000, which would later become Florida Forever. Graham remained a leader for the environment in the US Senate.

In recent years, Sen. Graham has led efforts to push back on efforts in Tallahassee to break down a quarter century of critical safeguards for our land and water resources. Through the creation of the Florida Conservation Coalition, Sen. Graham is working to build a more united environmental movement to meet fresh challenges posed by entrenched special interests in state and local government.

We’re honored to have Sen. Graham send an email on our behalf this morning encouraging our supporters to sign the Florida Land and Legacy petition we first announced a couple weeks ago. Here’s the message that went out today:

Friend,

One of the values that help define what it means to be a Floridian is our desire to protect and preserve our land, water, and open spaces. Today, Florida as we know it is under threat, and that’s why I need your help right now.

If you haven’t already, please join me and sign the Florida Land and Legacy petition and help get this critical amendment on the ballot.

Be sure to read Mark’s message below about this important amendment and what it means for our great state. Thanks for all you’re doing to make Florida a better place now and for future generations.

For Florida,

Sen. Bob Graham

PS: A big thank you to all of you who have already signed the petition. Please be sure to forward this email, post the petition to Facebook, or tweet the petition and encourage your friends and family to sign too.

Subject: What kind of Florida will our children inherit?

Friend,

There’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to ensure Florida protects its precious waters, wildlife, and open spaces, and we can’t afford to let it pass us by. Florida’s Water and Land Legacy Campaign is working to place an historic conservation amendment on the November 2014 ballot that would ensure Florida is annually investing in critical land conservation.

We need to gather 150,000 more signatures from Florida voters in the next five months. Will you help us reach that goal by signing a petition today?

This amendment to Florida’s Constitution would ensure the allocation of a small percentage of our state budget to fund conservation that forever protects Florida’s remaining natural treasures.

Each signed petition from a Florida voter gets us one step closer to protecting what’s best about living here: miles of beaches, beautiful parks, crystal clear springs, endless opportunities to swim, bike and fish, and an amazing diversity of plants and animals. We must take a stand to protect Florida’s natural heritage.

Add your voice to more than 150,000 Floridians who’ve already taken action by signing the petition for Florida’s Water and Land Conservation Amendment today.

Florida is a special place, unlike any in the world. The Florida we love is under constant pressure from short-sighted politicians, relentless developers, and corporate special interest driven policies. Now more than ever, it’s critical our state invests in protecting and preserving natural Florida.

Florida needs your help, and together we will create an environmental legacy we can all be proud of.

For Florida’s future,

Mark, Damien, and the Progress Florida team

P.S. If you haven’t already, please consider volunteering with Florida’s Water and Land Legacy Campaign. Gathering signatures with other volunteers is the most effective way you can help us reach the finish line and ensure that the amendment makes it to the ballot!
