Statement from Progress Florida Reproductive Rights Program Director Amy Weintraub on the rejection of Proposal 22 by the Florida Constitution Revision Commission:

“In Florida, the right to privacy is fundamental, including the right to an abortion. We applaud the CRC for not taking away this fundamental right of privacy for women in Florida.

“Proposal 22 would have had far-reaching, negative effects on Floridians’ personal privacy rights beyond a woman’s right to control her body.

“There was never any legitimate reason to expose Floridians to greater government intrusions into our private lives. We stand in solidarity with the CRC commissioners who rightly recognized the devastating and broad reaching impacts that Proposal 22 would have had on Florida citizens’ right to privacy.”
