ST. PETERSBURG –On Thursday, Floridians reacted to news that Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi landed a prime-time speaking appearance at next week’s Republican National Convention, despite the fact that Bondi is the target of ethics complaints over her solicitation of a $25,000 campaign contribution from Trump in 2013.

“Did an illegal campaign contribution from a Trump foundation get Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to drop the Trump University fraud investigation? Voters have a right to know,” said Mark Ferrulo, Executive Director of Progress Florida. “On Wednesday night, Attorney General Bondi should explain why as Florida’s top law enforcement official, she solicited a donation from someone she was supposed to be investigating for fraud.”

In 2010 Bondi’s office reviewed 20 consumer complaints against Trump University’s “Trump Elite” Package. Later, in 2013, Bondi’s office reviewed New York’s lawsuit against Trump University for fraud and considered joining the suit. Three days after the Attorney General announced she was considering joining the New York lawsuit, Trump’s nonprofit family foundation donated $25,000 to her political committee, in an “apparent violation” of laws governing nonprofit political donations. Bondi then declined to take any action against the organization.
