TALLAHASSEE — As numerous crises continue to rage here in Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis, along with Attorney General Ashley Moody and Senate President Wilton Simpson, announced today they will be traveling to the border for a photo-op tomorrow.
In response to this stunt, Progress Florida Executive Director Mark Ferrulo and Florida Watch Executive Director Josh Weierbach issued the following statements:
“Following a week in which almost 500 tons of dead fish were removed from Tampa Bay due to a growing red tide disaster and Florida became the national leader in new Covid cases, Governor Ron DeSantis has decided that the issue he’d most like to address is his own ambition to be President,” said Mark Ferrulo. “It is not surprising though because whenever he is given the chance, Governor DeSantis always ignores his current job to put himself and the politics of his far-right base ahead of the needs of the people of Florida.”
“It seems like the only thing Governor Ron DeSantis has time to do, other than raising taxes on everyday Floridians, is to engage in partisan stunts that further his own presidential aspirations,” stated Josh Weierbach. “Florida is facing a public health emergency with the resurgence of the coronavirus and an ongoing environmental and economic catastrophe due to red tide, but if Floridians need their Governor, they’ll have to tune into FOX News to catch a glimpse of him posing for the cameras 1,500 miles away.”
