Last week, the U.S. Senate passed the Respect for Marriage Act, which would enshrine marriage equality in federal law, granting protections to same-sex and interracial couples. This bill still must pass the House, but the bipartisan vote in the Senate is a great step forward.. As made clear when Roe v. Wade was overturned, we must take every precaution to protect people’s fundamental rights.
No one should have to worry about their rights being stripped away at the hands of a Supreme Court stacked with ultra-conservative judges. After the awful year of anti-equality attacks the LGBTQ community has faced, it is about time this bill becomes a law, and we cannot wait for it to pass the House and be signed into law by President Biden! While we have a way to go, let’s celebrate this win!
