It’s easy to be cynical about the Florida Legislature and its leadership that far too often puts special interests and campaign donors ahead of everyday Floridians. So today, we want to take a moment to recognize those legislators who championed our progressive values clearly and consistently throughout the 2016 legislative session.

While there are a number of legislators who fight to protect and expand the middle class in Florida, Middle Class Champions are a select few who voted the right way 100% of the time on the critical bills that impacted everyday Floridians this past legislative session. We’re proud to honor these 18 legislators.
Florida’s Middle Class Champions promoted a wide range of issues including expanding access to health care, protecting civil liberties, public safety, and retirement security, stopping fracking, opposing political interference in women’s access to reproductive health care and a $192 million dollar corporate tax giveaway, standing up for our public schools, and more.

These legislators are being recognized because they unequivocally stood up for middle class families despite pressure from Gov. Scott and legislative leaders whose narrow ideological agenda is driven by corporate campaign donors.
As we continue the fight to promote progressive values and protect and expand Florida’s middle class, we should take time to thank these legislators who are courageously standing and fighting with us.
