Director of Organizing

Florida Rights Restoration Coalition

FRRC seeks a highly experienced, motivated, talented and dynamic individual to serve as a Director of Organizing to head the Organizing Department. The Director of Organizing is responsible for developing and implementing plans to win issue campaigns in Florida, providing training and capacity building activities for FRRC Core Leaders, and recruiting and developing FRRC Fellows to build out Membership and Regional Chapters.  

The Director of Organizer is an exempt position and will be part of the Senior Leadership Team. Exempt employees are expected to work the appropriate and necessary time to complete key assignments and related tasks on schedule.


  • Manage the base building and campaign programs.
  • Manage and direct Organizers to facilitate meetings to present on behalf of the FRRC and recruit new members.
  • Develop and train Organizers to facilitate civic education events, trainings and workshops in their assigned areas.
  • Assist Lead Organizers in identifying and recruiting Core Leaders to become FRRC Fellows.
  • Assist Lead Organizers in training and developing Core Leaders and FRRC Fellows through workshops and training sessions.
  • Travel to train and assist Lead Organizers to conduct outreach, meet partners, and support local and statewide campaign activities.
  • Work with FRRC partners for joint actions, trainings, campaigns.
  • Assist and train Lead Organizers to mobilize volunteers into action around FRRC policy agenda and campaigns.
  • Update and maintain data related to membership recruitment, trainings, events and direct voter contact.
  • Responsible for the development of departmental strategic planning and budgets
  • Responsible for assisting in the identification and hiring process of positions within the Organizing Department.
  • Prepare monthly reports and summaries
  • Responsible for managing the Organizing Department and supervising employees within the department.


  • Bachelor degree from an accredited institution of higher learning preferred, or equivalent job-related work experience required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in community, labor, or grassroots organizing.
  • Experience managing a diverse staff and working with ethnically and culturally diverse populations.


  • Understanding of issues facing returning citizens, including, but not limited to, low income and minority communities.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of organizing strategies and tactics.
  • Ability to execute campaign goals and objectives.
  • Ability to work effectively with local allies and leaders.
  • Intellectual drive, a progressive outlook, and the entrepreneurial spirit to carry out programs in accord with FRRC’s mission and values.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and desire for social change.
  • Strong management and supervisory skills.
  • Must be able to work within a team, have proven leadership ability, and an orientation towards handling many responsibilities.
  • Computer skills: working knowledge of campaign databases including word processing, spreadsheet, and multimedia presentation software.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and a passion for FRRC's mission. 


  • Familiarity with the Voter Activation Network.
  • Established community relationships.
  • Prior knowledge and experience working in selected regions of Florida.
  • Returning citizens strongly encouraged to apply.


The Director Organizing will interact most frequently with the Director of Programs, Communications Director and Executive Director as well as the members of the Organizing Team. In addition, this person will also interact frequently with FRRC members, community stakeholders, and coalition partners. 


  • The Director of Organizing is regularly required to sit, stand, walk. 
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
  • Director of Organizing will typically work a standard work week but may be required to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to travel locally, regionally and nationally on occasion. This person will be required to use their personal automobile for business and must carry auto insurance and have a current driver’s license.
  • The Director of Organizing traditionally in an office environment (Orlando-based HQ) with some time spent in the field.
  • Noise level is moderate, with some frequency of interruptions; remote work options are available.
