Here are some of the issues local Awake The State organizers and activists will be talking about on the first day of legislative session:
-
Closing the health care coverage gap through the expansion of Medicaid and providing coverage for nearly 600,000 hardworking Floridians.
-
Raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour so Floridians who work full time don’t have to live in poverty
-
Promoting a statewide ban on fracking to protect our land and water.
-
Opposing Gov. Rick Scott’s budget, particularly his corporate tax giveaways at the expense of critical needs like public education and mental health.
-
Halting the latest round of anti-immigrant legislation.
-
Stopping attacks on women’s health and reproductive justice.
Awake The State events will be making these issues a priority not only with our legislators but with our friends and neighbors.

We know Gov. Scott and his legislative allies have little interest in a Florida that works for all Floridians, not just their wealthy and well-connected backers. But they’re not the one’s we’ll be talking to on the opening day of legislative session. Our fellow citizens need to know they have a real choice during the 2016 legislative session and in the years ahead.
Next Tuesday, let’s Awake The State!
