Elections in Florida are often decided by razor-thin margins, making every vote truly matter. If you think that’s hyperbole, think again: the Boca Raton mayoral race in March was decided by just five votes, and just last month, the race for a St. Cloud City Council Seat was won by a single vote.

Even statewide elections have historically been very close. In 2018, the gubernatorial, U.S. Senate, and Agriculture Commissioner elections, were close enough to require a machine recount.

For those planning to vote by mail, be aware that in 2021 Gov. DeSantis signed a bill that, among other unnecessary changes, requires mail voters to request a mail ballot every general election cycle. As a result, many voters may not realize they are currently not registered to receive a mail ballot. The October 5 deadline to register to vote in Florida is fast-approaching, but there’s no better time to check your status and make sure friends and family are registered than today – National Voter Registration Day.
