At the urging of an increasingly erratic and unhinged President Trump, Gov. DeSantis is pushing for a gerrymandering scheme to rig congressional maps for partisan gain. Drawing political maps to benefit one political party violates the Florida Constitution and undermines our democracy and our ability to choose leaders who reflect and serve us and our communities.
The Florida House of Representatives has now scheduled a meeting of the Select Committee on Congressional Redistricting on December 4 at 1:30 p.m in Tallahassee. The timing signals a rapid move to advance a process that could dramatically reshape political power in Florida and the nation
Fight back: sign up to help us pack the meeting with pro-democracy allies on December 4.
Ahead of that initial committee meeting, we’re joining partners across the state for a Day of Action in Tallahassee on Tuesday, December 2 at 11:00 a.m. to defend fair representation and protect our voting power.
Join us on December 2 to defeat partisan congressional maps and protect our voting power.
The December 2 Day of Action will begin with a press conference on the fourth floor of the Capitol, followed by in-person legislative office visits, and statewide digital actions – including patch-through calls, social media posts, emails to lawmakers, and other coordinated outreach efforts to show our collective power.
In light of the December 4 committee meeting, we are mobilizing to ensure strong in-person support at the hearing as well. Our priority is to have people in the room to speak on the record and ensure the members of the committee hear directly from us. We welcome everyone who is able to join us for the December 2 press conference. If you can only attend one day, we ask that you prioritize December 4. If you are able to attend both, even better.
Register to join us HERE on December 2.
Register to join us HERE for December 4.
Even if you cannot attend either day in person, please take a moment to help amplify the action.
Florida cannot allow elected leaders to rewrite the rules in the middle of the game. When they come for our voting maps, they come for our power, and we must act now.
Thank you for being a part of our network and for standing up for democracy.
For people over politics,
Mark and the Progress Florida team
