End Florida’s solar energy eclipse

Only four states prohibit citizens from buying electricity from anyone other than a monopoly utility. It’s time to change that.

It’s a real embarrassment that we live in the “Sunshine State” yet our state lags so far behind in solar energy. We have a real opportunity to end the solar energy eclipse on next November’s ballot, and we need your help today to do that.

Sign the petition to put the Florida Solar Choice Amendment on the November 2016 ballot.

Florida has the best solar energy potential east of the Mississippi, yet less than 1% of our energy comes from the sun. Why? A big reason is Florida is one of only four states that prohibit citizens from buying electricity from anyone other than a monopoly utility. In most states, people have the choice to go solar at no upfront cost through various forms of financing, but those choices are severely limited here in Florida.

That’s why Progress Florida has joined 50 organizations in endorsing Floridians for Solar Choice (FSC) to help expand solar choice in the Sunshine State. This broad coalition is working to place a constitutional amendment on the 2016 state ballot that would remove the barriers that are currently in place and greatly expand solar in Florida.

Our coalition has collected 175,000 petition signatures, but there is still a long way to go. To place this historic amendment on the ballot and to truly make Florida the Sunshine State, we need your help.

Join us in supporting this important ballot initiative by signing a petition to get this measure on the 2016 ballot.

Our state legislature has remained idle for too long, so we’ve decided it’s time to take the issue straight to the people. Please take a few minutes to sign the petition for solar choice and move our state closer to fulfilling its promise as the “Sunshine State.”
