Big developers are trying to bring more costly and unnecessary sprawl to Leon County.

Known as the “Rockaway” project, this proposed development will allow up to 500 residential units in a rural area currently zoned for 50. Dear Secretary Pelham:

As concerned Floridians, we urge you to oppose a Leon County Comprehensive Plan Amendment to allow up to 500 homes (“Rockaway” project) at the corner of Mahan Drive and Wadesboro Road. This massive increase in development density in an area well outside of the Urban Services Area is not in the public interest and embodies the very definition of “urban sprawl.”. This proposed change to our comprehensive plan has not emanated from Leon county residents or the public, rather, it’s being spearheaded by a politically connected out-of-town developer. Please protect our quality of life and oppose this amendment.
