Progress Florida

What It Is: The Florida Clean Energy Trust Fund would be a fund used exclusively for renewable energy incentives, public education on energy efficiency and conservation, low interest loans for renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives, and incentives for Florida-based renewable energy manufacturers. If you want more information, click here.

How it would work: A small charge would be assessed to each electric utility customer in Florida. This would be approximately 60 cents per month on the average residential electric bill. By replacing just one 100 light bulb with an energy efficient compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb, the average residential consumer would save enough money to pay for the new bulb and offset the proposed fee. This would generate $114 million for the Trust Fund, enough to make it effective.

Sign the petition below to tell Gov. Crist it's time for the Florida Clean Energy Trust Fund:

Dear Gov. Crist,

We, the undersigned Floridians, urge you to support the Florida Clean Energy Trust Fund proposal.

We are more than willing to pay a small fee on our monthly electric bill that will easily be offset with a simple energy efficient improvement such as installing a new CFL light bulb. This is not a tax but rather an opportunity for Floridians to join together and act against the real tax of foreign energy dependency and impending climate change. The more than $100 million per year that this small fee can raise is desperately needed to begin the work of building the new clean energy industry and to put Floridians back to work.

Signed,
