someone isn't giving us the full story
By User from Bradenton, FL Jun 11th 2009 at 1:04 am EDT (Updated Jun 11th 2009 at 1:04 am EDT)
I'm assuming by reading this article that the author lives in a land of rainbows and unicorns? I'm curious how the email was sent? Wind power? or even better, they turned a generator by hand to generate enough power to turn the computer on? This is a fundamental fact that the technology simple isn't there to live the way this article describes.. I have been in the OIL and GAS industry for 13 years and believe this or not, I live here too, my kids live here as well.. "on planet earth". I would be more then happy to trade in the authors cars, turn off their power, and sit them in the middle of the forest so they can have "Clean Power".. Here's some additional food for thought, With all the green energy, this means lighter, more efficient products like plastics. What do you think Plastics are made of? Petroleum............When the author quits drinking Kool-Aid and smoking hash, I would love to have an intellectual conversation concerning this topic. The current predictions are estimating that oil will once again be around 130 dollars a barrel by the summer of 2011 and gas will reach 4.50 gal . Do you honestly think China or India really give a shit about the environmental impact? This is yet another article written by someone who does not want to drill on American soil who wishes to buy Energy from countries who would love to re-create 9-11. I would like to have a definition of renewable energy. Examples of "renewable energy"

Solar Panels: Heavy metals , cant recycle, Short life span, expensive

Wind Turbine: Plastics - Interrupts bird migration. Environmentalists actually have fought against

Battery: Expensive. Acids: Short life span. Land Fill

This is a ridiculous comment for several reasons, the first of which is that it's on the wrong post. My post doesn't even refer to the topic you're talking about.

Second, it's clear that the "user" has a vested interested in oil, so he's far from impartial.

Three, he's either directly lying or is falling for nonsense that people are lying to him. His description of the viability of alternate energy might have been true in the 1960s, but it's complete nonsense in the present.

Fourth, he says that he'd like to have an intellectual conversation on the topic, but is so condescending and insulting that he probably doesn't even know what an intellectual conversation would look like.

Finally, and most importantly, all scientific evidence leads one to the conclusion that further drilling in the U.S. will do nothing to reduce gas prices or solve our energy problems. The only solution that makes any sense is a diversified portfolio of primarily renewable sources, which, for the near future would have to include oil and gas. But those would be phased out as fuel sources in relatively short order. Anyone who doesn't see that is either ignorant, lying or both.
