Call key senators now and tell them to vote NO on HB 7111. Discrimination has no place in Florida.
Florida’s unconscionable ban on gay adoption was ruled unconstitutional in 2010 and it’s been unenforced by the state ever since. This year, the legislature has been working to clean up the statutes to reflect this court ruling. However, throughout this legislative session, extremists have been working to hijack the process and promote a new regime of discrimination in the child adoption process.
Let’s be clear: if the extremists win, the ultimate losers will be Florida children who need a loving home. This is why the Child Welfare League of America, Donaldson Adoption Institute, North American Council on Adoptable Children, Voice for Adoption, and the National Association of Social Workers all oppose HB 7111.
HB 7111 likely violates the Florida Constitution and has no place in our state. After the furious and warranted pushback against Indiana’s discrimination bill earlier this month, Florida’s legislators should understand we won’t stand for this kind of discrimination any more.
