Despite heavy lobbying by the fossil fuel companies, SB 442 passed its first committee, the Senate Environmental Preservation and Conservation Committee, with a unanimous, bipartisan vote. We're cautiously optimistic that this good bill will also pass its next committee. It’s final committee before going to the floor will be the Senate Appropriations Committee and there the fate of the fracking ban is uncertain.
The fact that a fracking ban bill exists and is making progress in a legislature whose leadership is normally beholden to the interests of Big Oil is due to thousands of Floridians like you speaking out against the dangers of fracking in our state. For several years, everyday Floridians have testified, rallied, called, and petitioned their legislators to stop pro-fracking legislation that would have put our land and water in danger. The momentum is with the movement to finally ban fracking in our state. We can’t let up now.
The bill to ban fracking has a long road ahead of it, but with each call and each action we’re getting closer to the day in Florida when fracking is finally banned for good.
